Salley Koo

Violin

A violinist of great range and energy, Salley Koo has performed internationally as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician. Recent performance venues include the Musikverein, Carnegie Hall, the Kimmel Center, the National Gallery, the Tanglewood, Ravinia, Skaneateles, and Caramoor Festivals, and on tour alongside artists ranging from Bela Fleck to Dawn Upshaw to Gil Shaham. Salley has performed in both early and new music realms, from recording Lotti for Centaur Records to working closely with many influential composers. Ms. Koo is a regular guest artist with groups such as the Minnesota Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, East Coast Chamber Orchestra, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the International Contemporary Ensemble, the Knights, and the Lebanese American University in Beirut.

Ms. Koo enjoys a thriving teaching career alongside her life as a performer. Currently the violin professor at Adelphi University, she has also served as violin professor and coordinator of chamber music at the University of Connecticut; other appointments include the Green Lake Chamber Music Festival, Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, Young Artist Program at Yellow Barn, and Opus 118 We Want Music!

 Hailing from Chicago, where she studied with Almita and Roland Vamos, Ms. Koo went on to study with Lynn Chang, Peter Oundjian, Pamela Frank, and Philip Setzer, earning degrees from Harvard University, the Yale School of Music, and Stony Brook University.  Other inspiring mentors of note are David Taylor, Sylvie Koval, and Dorothy Kitchen.
